What is Blue Light?
Blue light is a type of light with a specific wavelength of 400-495 nanometers (nm). Blue light is not necessarily bad for us and is a part of the visible light spectrum. Blue light is found naturally in nature, such as in sunlight, and is also found in artificial light such as modern LED lighting, and is also emitted from modern technology such as TV and computer screens, as well as smartphones.
Blue light in sunlight differs somewhat from artificial blue light as it is balanced with other wavelengths, depending on the time of day. In the morning there is less blue light and more red light, and in the middle of the day, there is more blue light and less red light. Towards the end of the day and into the evening blue light once again decreases and red light increases.

My Experience With Blue Light Blocking Glasses
For the past year, I have been using blue light blocking glasses in the evening, and more recently I have purchased daytime blue light blocking glasses, as I am now getting more screen time working on my computer during the day.
NightFall Wrap Blue Blocking Glasses
I have been using these NightFall Wrap Blue Blocking Glasses for the past year to improve my sleep quality. These are their maximum protection night glasses blocking 100% of blue light as well as green light. They also have a wrap-around fit to minimize leakage of unfiltered light.
They have a somewhat cheap and plastic feel to them, compared to my new DayMax ELITE Glasses, however, they are comfortable to wear, especially with the padding on the inside which ensures a good fit, and does not allow any light to enter from the sides.
I have found the NightFall Wrap Blue Blocking Glasses to be effective at improving sleep quality, and I believe they have been a good investment. I rarely have trouble falling asleep, and pretty quickly, even if I have been working late on the computer, watching TV, or spending too much time on my smartphone. I often have trouble staying awake in the evening, especially on those long dark winter evenings. How much of this is due to these glasses is hard to tell, however, I do believe they are positively affecting my sleep quality, and I will continue to use them.
DayMax ELITE Glasses
More recently I have purchased some daytime blue light blocking glasses, to help with eye strain and the potential damage blue light can cause to eye health, especially now I am spending more time looking at a computer screen during the day. I was happy with my nighttime glasses, so I purchased the DayMax ELITE Glasses.
These glasses have a more premium feel compared to my nighttime glasses, and they feel like they are good quality overall. These glasses block out 100% of the most damaging wavelengths of blue light, while still allowing some blue light through to help with alertness and energy throughout the day. Importantly you are still able to see different color shades when working. I always use these during the day and often use them in the early evening when I’m watching TV and still want to be able to see different colors, for example when I’m watching a football game. Using the nighttime glasses in this situation would result in everything looking red!
I feel these glasses are effective and I do feel less eye strain after working on the computer for multiple hours in the day. More importantly, they are protecting my eyes from the most damaging spectrum of blue light so I see them as a worthwhile investment.

I have also purchased a red light reading lamp. The Twilight Red Light Sleep Lamp is a portable, rechargeable bedside lamp that provides an optimal evening light source that is 100% blue and green light-free. It is also flicker-free and low EMF, which is exactly what you want for nighttime lighting. The lamp is gooseneck, has 360-degree flexibility and can be easily adjusted to your desired position. It has 3 brightness settings, and a touch sensor control, and is also highly portable, making it great for travel.
This is a great little lamp that I use all the time. You can easily move it around the house, or buy multiple lamps. I keep it at my bedside during the night, so I can use it if I need to get up in the night. This way I do not have to turn on bright blue light which could disrupt sleep quality. The battery lasts a surprising amount of time, you can also plug it in permanently via a standard USB charger so that it does not need recharging.
Conclusion
In my experience, BlockBlueLight seems to be a great company, and I have found their products to be good quality and effective at improving sleep quality.
